Seoul breaks Pohang 2-1 to pull off their first win for 2018

On the sixth round of the 2018 K-League 1, FC Seoul notched up their first win this season, beating the Pohang Steelers 2-1 on the strength of a brace from Go Yo Han.

Seoul assumed a 4-2-3-1 formation for their home game. With Yang Han Bin keeping the goal, Park Dong Jin, Hwang Hyun Soo, Kwak Tae Hwi, and Shin Kwang Hoon formed a four-back defense line. Kim Sung Joon, Jung Hyun Cheol, and Sin Jin Ho set up a triangular formation in the middle, and Go Yo Han and Anderson stood on each side of the front, with Evandro spearheading the attack.

The hosts got the start of the game, with Anderson unleashing a powerful drive towards the goal merely 5 minutes into the first half. Unfortunately, it was Seoul that allowed an opener first. The hosts fought back, with Jung Hyun Cheol dashing into the box and sending a strong shot towards the target. Seoul continued to increase ball possession and ran the game with a steady amount of aggression.

Seoul’s continuous efforts bore fruit in the 31st minute of the first half. Anderson cut into the right side before whipping in a cross towards Go Yo Han, who equalized the match with his first scoring this season. With their morale boosted by the equalizer, Seoul sought to find another goal, but the first regulation time soon came to an end, still tied 1-1.

Seoul gained the upper hand of the latter half, with Kwak Tae Hwi making a threatening header nearly upon the start of the game. The narrow chance was instantly followed by a counterattack, which was defused quickly enough thanks to the aid of goalposts and the super save by GK Yang Han Been.

It was in the 18th minute when Seoul turned around the tables. A cross was fired from the side, and Go Yo Han, the hero of the equalizer, found the net one more time with a prevision volley amidst the chaos inside the penalty box. Reversing the game, Seoul kept their dominance and substituted Kim Sung Jun for Park Chu Young, determined to find more goals.

The visitors managed to equalize the game in the 35th minute, but a VAR found it off-side, allowing the hosts to keep their lead. Staying focused to the last minute, Seoul maintained their lead and earned three win-points for the first time this year.

Having securedthefirst win for 2018, FC Seoul will seek to get their second consecutive victory against Ulsan Hyundai F.C. on Saturday.
