On September 1, FC Seoul put an end to the series of defeats they recently suffered, drawing 0-0 with Gangwon F.C. in Round 27 of the 2018 KEB Hana Bank K League 1, which was hosted at ChuncheonSongamLeports Town.
While it fell short of a win, the game served as an opportunity for Seoul to sever their losing streaks and raise hopes for the advancement into the ACF Champions League.
Seoul deployed Matic as center forward on the forefront, with Go Yo-han and Cho Young-wook offering support fire from left and right. Song Jin-hyung and Lee Sang-ho supported the attackers from midfield, with Sin Jin-ho adding a buffer to Seoul’s four-back line. Yun Suk-young, Lee Woong-hee, Kim Dong-woo, and Sim Sang-min formed the defense, with Yang Han-been wearing the goalkeeper’s gloves.
Both teams took a very careful approach throughout the first half. In the 25th minute, Cho Young-wook charged down the pitch from half line, peeling off several defenders, before lobbing a long pass towards Go Yo-ha, who was cutting into the back space of Gangwon’s defense. Go Yo-han almost created a promising one-on-one encounter with the goalie, but the timing was rather late.
In the 38th minute Yun Suk-young’s sharp cross flew towards Matic, but the ball missed his foot. In the 42nd minute, Lee Sang-ho created a critical chance inside the penalty box, but his shot went off the target rather too wide. The first half was closed without goals.
Upon the start of the latter half, Seoul substituted Kim Han-gil for Song Jin-hyung in a bid to find the net. In the 26th minute Go Yo-han exchanged neat passes with Lee Sang-ho near the box, before unleashing a powerful shot, which flew over the goalposts.
In the 35th minute, Seoul replaced Matic with Yoon Seung-won to find the net, but their efforts failed to bear fruit. In the 43rd minute, Kim Han-gil collected a second ball from inside the box and volleyed it, but his shot ended up in a side net.
In the 45th minute, Kim Woo-hong was brought in as replacement of Lee Sang-ho. The visitors mounted strong pressure to the last minute, but the game was closed scoreless.
Having suffered three-game losing streaks, Seoul will take the draw of today as a turning point to kick-start yet another winning spree.
